Three new homes/Triplex development

This project is a triplex development in one of Melbourne’s middle-ring suburbs. With the benefit of being quite close to the city, with relatively large blocks of land, these suburbs are the perfect place to build smart townhouses and bring more density and housing options to the area.

The area overlooks a creek reserve and is a diverse street with a range of new and existing homes. Despite this mix of eras, there’s one defining element: bricks. As a way to fit into the area, these townhouses have a solid brick podium, while a lighter-weight steel cladding on the upstairs helps the project feel smaller scale to avoid dominating the street. Pitched roofs and timber pergolas further soften the homes and provide functional outdoor space for residents.

With good design, developments in the suburbs don’t need to be brutish. Instead, they present an opportunity for compact, but efficient family homes with great natural light, thoughtful indoor-outdoor living and access to all the benefits of proximity to the city all within walking distance of local hubs.
